Between the River and the Wall

Sometimes the image on paper is as striking as the reality on the ground. In this case, it's the shape of the Rio Grande/Bravo and the shape of the border wall in Brownsville, Texas that grabs me. I've seen the wall in my home town of El Paso, Texas, and it's not very pretty, and snakes through the landscape like a scar. The river, even a contained river like the Rio Grande, has contours that are mostly a result of the forces of water etching through the landscape of rock and soil. The shape of the wall is political, where permits, and rights of way and easily acquired land will accommodate the construction. Maybe my next investigation is a depiction of the gates in the wall that let the landowners in and out, like huge electric neighborhood gates.
